Greetings, my name is Angela Borchardt and welcome to my Maine dig site!  This site will give you a glimpse into my experience working with the wonderful group from the Abbe Museum.
Pittston Academy Grant

The site is located in Pittston Academy Grant, an unorganized territory north of Moosehead Lake.  The site is near Pittston Farm on Seeboomook Lake.  The farm originally functioned as the center for Great Northern Paper Company's logging activities.  It now offers rustic accommodations for outdoor recreation enthusiasts in an area rich in natural beauty and history.

It was a pleasure to meet everyone in the Abbe Group. I had a great time with a great group of people.  Thank You, Rick, Becky and Julia for bombarding my brain with information and good times..."Becky your Sox won, I concede until next season", Alice for the delicious lunch for my ride home..mmmm,  Bethie and Zsuzanna for being such fun friends, Aaron, for daring the backroads with me in search of the cel signs and everyone else for making me smile...Thank You...

Abbe Museum Archaeology Fieldschool

The fieldschool is both a research project and an educational opportunity.  Participants join archaeologist conducting research through excavation and collection of archaeological materials.  After daily work in the field, nightly educational lectures are conducted.  These lectures include topics on field and lab techniques in archaeology as well as specific information on American Northeastern Archaeology.

SITE 130.35 FEA 1

After days of surveys without any luck our group was running out of hope.  On the third day Brad Edwards and I hit stone.  Could it be???!!!  We had found a hearth where a very busy toolmaker had been sitting.  Along with our first found feature, our group collected artifact 130.35.38; a biface fragment which has been worked to form a uniface scraper.  In addition, we collected over 800 pieces of lithic debitage and a felsite core.
